As the sun slowly begins to rise this wintry morning over Thorpe Abbots,
Norfolk, ground crew prepare B-17G “The All American Girl”
in an almost surreal setting, for her 99th dangerous mission over enemy
territory. On 10th January 1945, 19-year-old pilot, 1st Lt. John Dodrill
and his crew went missing on a combat sortie to Cologne. Like many other
crews, they made the ultimate sacrifice in the fight for freedom, with
the ‘Bloody Hundredth’ Bombardment Group playing its full
part with courage and honour.
