Returning to base after an arduous escort mission, Captain Art Fiedler leads a flight of P51 Mustangs from the 325th Fighter Group - the Checkertail Clan - through the Po Valley in northern Italy seeking out targets of opportunity amongst the retreating Axis forces, July 1944.

The edition is signed by the artist and hand numbered and each print is individually hand signed and authenticated by one of the foremost Aces in the 325th Fighter Group

Colonel ART FIEDLER
Arthur C. Fiedler – ‘Art’, the very pilot depicted in the scene – joined the 325th FG in Italy in May 1944 and quickly got into action with victories over three Me109s and another probable within his first six weeks. He achieved his Ace status after downing another Me109 over Hungary on 26 July, his second victory of the day. His final victory was an Fw190 over Regensburg on 20 January 1945, bringing his tally to 8 confirmed and 1 probable. Not only had ‘Art’ become one of the Checkertails’ top Aces, he was one of the most respected pilots in the unit. After the war he transferred to the USAF and flew combat missions in Vietnam
