Return of the Pathfinders by Anthony Saunders
As dawn breaks on a crisp, icy morning, de Havilland Mosquitos of 139 Sqn return to base at RAF Upwood after a long overnight trip to Germany in early 1944.
There had never been an aircraft like the de Havilland Mosquito; constructed almost entirely of wood with two Merlin engines bolted under each wing it could outrun any other piston-engine fighter in the world.
Nicknamed the Wooden Wonder it was also perhaps the most versatile aircraft of WWII and operated in a huge number of roles including low-level precision strikes or as part of the RAFs elite Pathfinder force used to locate and identify targets ahead of the main bomber force.
Anthony's atmospheric piece pays tribute to this amazing aircraft and the valiant crews who flew it. Adding great authenticity, every print has been personally signed by highly respected veterans who flew Mosquitos during WWII, including members of the Pathfinder Force, creating a historic collectors edition.
