Egrets & Friends

“In the United Kingdom we are all familiar with the sight of flocks
of seagulls following the plough. In Africa, I am often reminded of this
picture as I watch white egrets feeding on insects that are disturbed
by the feet of elephant or buffalo. I always remember on my first visit
to Africa in 1949, a game warden I met who said, ‘If you leave them
alone, they will leave you alone.’ Every animal in the wild knows
that Man is its most implacable enemy. So I never feel too uncomfortable
when watching, at close quarters, a magnificent bull buffalo gazing intently
at me from the thick undergrowth.” Supplied Mounted
