Such actions are to be repeated time and again during this summer-long war of attrition, in an epic duel that will be written into history as the Battle of Britain. In July 1943 two huge armies clashed on the rolling steppes around the town of Kursk, 300 miles south of Moscow.
The Germans had launched Operation 'Citadel' to try and regain the initiative on the Eastern Front. It was to be an encounter of epic proportions - the largest tank battle in history. Small canvases 16" X 12". They are fully detailed images with usually one main aircraft but enough background detail to make it feel like a proper painting with landscape and moody lighting and if necessary smaller planes beyond. Price £1800.
Medium sized canvases usually 30" X 20". Not such big complicated designs as Nick's biggest pictures but nevertheless they are big efforts full of detail and action. Price £5500 to £7000.
Main big paintings usually used for the big litho print editions. Typically 36 or 38 inches wide by 20 to 24 high. These can be very complex with villages or harbours, railway yards or tank battle scenes below. Nick's speciality is the landscape backgrounds.These pictures tend to have more aircraft and are very carefully designed in order to make a main published print. Price £12000

With the Battle of Britain won and the threat of Nazi invasion halted, by early 1941 the Royal Air Force High Command issued orders to take the fight back across the Channel against Adolf Hitlers occupying forces in Northern Europe. By March, Air Chief Marshal William Sholto-Douglas had replaced Sir Hugh Dowding as Air Officer Commander of Fighter Command and had appointed Wing Leaders at each fighter station in No. 11 Group to lead offensive operations over France.
