The starting grid front row was Bruce McLaren, Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham and Graham Hill

Mercedes raced at the first Grand Prix in 1906 and are present throughout early Grand Prix history. On July 23 1939, three-time European Champion Rudolf Caracciola drove his Mercedes W163 ‘Silver Arrow’ to win the German Grand Prix at the Nurbergring for the sixth time in his career.
