Tazio Nuvolari, Alfa Romeo Tipo B, 1935 German Grand Prix
The 1935 German Grand Prix. Was, on paper, to be another success for the
German Auto Unions and Mercedes teams, the Auto Unions having 100hp more
than the Alpha Romeo (which was already a three year old design). Nuvolari
nursed his tyres, drove the race of his life, and despite a two minute
pit stop, with half a lap to go, was second to the Mercedes when the Mercedes
tyre blew. To the astonishment of Hitler and the German crowd, Nuvolari
was victorious, and was the only non Mercedes or Auto Union driver to
win any of the eight Grand Prix of the 1935 season.
