
AMERICAN CLIPPER ‘SPITFIRE’

Tea, carried down the Min River from the plantations on Chinese junks, is loaded aboard the ‘Spitfire’ in Pagoda Anchorage, Foochow in October 1857. In this busy port scene a steam tug approaches, indicating the Clipper is almost ready to sail for London, a voyage that she will complete in 113 days. Overall print size: 32½ inches wide x 24 inches high. Signed by the artist Robert Taylor and printed by mastercraftsmen on archival grade art paper specially imported from France. Pagoda Anchorage (10½ inches wide x 7 inches high) is an accompanying print which views the same harbour scene, but from a different perspective.
